Own up to your mistakes and allow the people on your team to retain their humanity as well. Be graceful in stressful situations by extending empathy and understanding.
Be fully present.
Avoid multitasking when you are with your team. You are ready to listen to members of your team, showing them that what they are saying is your only focus.
Seek to understand before seeking to be understood.
Listen with an empathetic ear. “Listening means trying to see the problem the way the speaker sees it – which means not sympathy behavior which is feeling FOR [her] but empathy, which is feeling WITH [her].”
